Job Description

Position Summary:

SomaLogic is seeking a dynamic world-class head of Marketing who will plan and execute imaginative, unique and effective global marketing activities for SomaLogic’s game-changing SOMAscan platform.  This role is an opportunity to match the creativity and disruptiveness of SomaLogic’s technology with an equally creative and disruptive marketing organization in order to fully realize the value of SomaLogic’s offerings.

SomaLogic maintains two primary market verticals: Life Sciences Research and Healthcare (providers/payors).  In the Research vertical, we deliver proteomic research solutions to the pharma and academic markets, with potential expansions into other markets such as animal or nutrition.  In the Healthcare market, we are targeting large health systems with a small group of concierge practice pilot sites for our proteomic diagnostics.  Candidates should be well versed in at least one, and ideally both of SomaLogic’s major market verticals, with a proven track record of measurable marketing successes.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Ÿ  Working with the commercial leaders and executive team, help decide and lead the overall marketing strategy of the company in both market segments.

Ÿ  Build a world-class marketing function, nearly from the ground up.  Create a hiring plan that aligns with organizational needs, balancing the ideas of growing internal talent, and hiring expertise that currently does not exist inside SomaLogic; prepare and manage marketing department budgets to support the achievement of sales and profitability targets.  Manage the team through clearly established metrics and goals.

Ÿ  Create, implement and refine on an ongoing basis a comprehensive approach to Marketing, including strategy and tactics, upstream and downstream efforts.

Ÿ  Ultimately responsible for digital strategy and tactics, creating a world-class presence for SomaLogic in the online space of research, discovery, health and wellness.  This includes overall ownership of the website, all social media, the online community, and all customer-related digital elements.

Ÿ  Establish and maintain corporate branding standards.

Ÿ  Devise and implement a tactical marketing plan to achieve strategic marketing objectives.

Ÿ  Guide product management to define new products and services, using a thorough understanding of market dynamics and customer needs; expand product and service portfolio in support of corporate growth and profitability goals; develop, launch, promote and support new products.  Guide individual product elements such as report graphics, content, and look and feel.

Ÿ  Assume primary responsibility for market research and insight identification; develop and maintain a deep understanding of clients’ objectives, workflow, constraints and bottlenecks; develop target customer personas; translate market insight into growth strategy and tactics.  Identify customer personas and clear, tailored value propositions.  Use data and market research to achieve these goals.

Ÿ  Define and implement the optimal marketing mix, including print, the full digital repertoire, and in-person events as appropriate;  exploit current trends and tools in marketing communications to target high value prospects, build awareness, generate sales-ready leads, and cultivate the brand;  conduct analysis/optimization of marketing tactics and campaigns.  Assist sales in upscaling the point of sale to the executive and senior levels of SomaLogic’s customer organizations.

Ÿ  Support sales and business development efforts with product and market training; work collaboratively with sales and business development and support to exploit feedback and optimize sales tools, lead generation, and support.

Ÿ  Individual success in the role will be measured, in large part, by the overall growth and financial performance of the company.


Skills & Requirements


                A bachelor’s degree in either a science or marketing related field is required; an advanced degree in business or science is highly preferred.

Skills and experience

Ÿ  10 years’ experience in the direct-to-pharma, diagnostics, health systems, or similar science or clinical-based industries, with at least 8 years in marketing roles

Ÿ  Experience in a leadership role managing, developing and building teams

Ÿ  Proven ability to market using digital tools and channels

Ÿ  Proven ability to work effectively with people from any level or area in a company, must be strong working on and leading cross-functional teams

Ÿ  Proven ability to assimilate complex technologies and to engage effectively with science and technical teams in pursuit of optimal business solutions

Ÿ  Must be comfortable with ambiguity and be able to bring order where chaos might be found

Ÿ  Strong and effective verbal and written communicator, with confident and dynamic personality and ability to communicate at the executive level, including to investors and board members

Ÿ  Strong analytical and project management skills

Ÿ  Ability to lead and thrive in an environment of constant change

Ÿ  Experience with a diagnostic, ideally molecular in nature, highly desired


Work Environment:

Will be expected to travel, including internationally, as required.
